Great stuff! Come to think of it, the engine build should be in a unique thread.
I was out there in the garage this evening playing roller cam button install, bolting my heads on, setting then lash...I can appreciate you efforts getting the 350 together.
Half-tempted to dyno my humble 327

A few Pics of the motor build. I wanted to build a stock, period correct 350 LT1. So I used 11:1 compression & Solid lifter Cam. Valves are 2.02 Intake and 1.60 Exhaust. The motor is very stock and built with mainly all vintage GM Parts. It features a . GM Pink "O" connecting rods, Stock GM Intake Part Number 972114, Holley 780 CFM Vacuum Secondary Carb List 4053, Distributor 1111927, Forged GM Pistons Part Number 3942543, .030 Over.

Basically the only parts in the motor that were not 1970 Stock GM LT1 parts are the valves, Valve springs, Lifters, Rockers & Cam. Everything else is original to the motor. The motor also features the stock windage tray, oil pump & fuel pump. However I did upgrade to a Pertronix pointless ignition under a stock distributor cap and stock coil.

Basically the only parts in the motor that were not 1970 Stock GM LT1 parts are the valves, Valve springs, Lifters, Rockers & Cam. Everything else is original to the motor. The motor also features the stock windage tray, oil pump & fuel pump. However I did upgrade to a Pertronix pointless ignition under a stock distributor cap and stock coil.

First I found a motor that was a good candidate for a rebuild. The engine block came out of a 1970 truck I think. 4 Bolt Mains. All of the parts I have are from a 1970 LT1, but the block is long gone. Block got hot tanked, align bored etc.



Block was standard, but was bored .030 over to match the pistons from the other motor.



Stock GM Crank Shaft Part Number 3941182 with a 8 inch Harmonic Balancer Part Number 3947708















The Cam shaft I used is a Comp Cams Factory Muscle unit, it is the replacement cam for GM part number 3972178, also known as the "Duntov" or "30/30" cam. I was going to go with the GM Cam 3927140, but my engine builder talked me into the Factory Muscle cam. He said it would be a better street cam, since the 3927140 cam is an off road design and makes power from 4200 RPM to 7500 RPM. My cam will make power from 3000 RPM to 6500 RPM.

The heads are replacement over the counter, Off Road Racing Heads. They are part number 336746. Casting number 3991492. The spark plug was relocated, moving the tip higher up in the chamber and closer to the exhaust valve. It yields a slight power increase when used with high dome pistons. These heads work good with 11:1 compression or higher.

Looks Great. I did the same with my 67, Only a friend gave me a short block 350 out of a 69 camaro to build. I kept it all stock looking,with the factory intake and exhaust manifolds ,air cleaner. it all looks factory. But like yours I've done a few things inside to make her lope a little. I have just a touch smaller Comp cam ( .454 ). You can see a video on you tube under 67 camaro jared freemyer

A few more pics.

In the dyno shop getting set up for break in



Holley 780 Vacuum Secondaries List 4053 Rebuilt as new. Oct '68 date code.



Rebuilt correct appearing alternator, not a very expensive 837 unit



Rebuilt starter, also not correct, but will look the part.



A correct 403 Bell Housing that was bead blasted



Various hardware & Mounting parts that will be blasted and powder coated



Correct for this motor Valve covers before cleaning



Valve covers after cleaning round one



A used correct chambered exhaust. I am going date code correct with as many parts as I can find. Since my car is a 11C car, chambered exhaust would apply. However with said I am going with a cowl hood anyway.

Nothing surpising in the power numbers. Could do better with less compression and vortec heads. Don't really understand the build.

Mike, Great engine build thread! I wish I had the time, space, and capability to build my own engine. I had a chance to help rebuild the 307 in my original 69 Camaro but that was almost 40 years ago. I had spun a rod bearing and a mechanic my dad knew from Chrysler rebuilt it while I helped/learned. I don't think the guys at Chrysler knew he was woking on a Chevy Both the Camaro and "experience" are long gone. My current 69 looks like my original, but is a SS 350 with original drive train. I'd like to rebuild the HA, keep the stock appearance, and get as close to 400HP as possible. Maybe some day... Cheers, Fred

mike , Its a 355ci, same crank as you 1182, kb dished pistons, 1965 camel hump 2.02s heads, comp cam .454, scat I beam rods, 621 bellhousing ,ram clutch, m20 trans soon to be replaced with a keisler rs 500 5 speed, 8 weeks away. I finished the car last fall and drove it 600-700 miles before the bad weather hit. When I would get it out last fall you should see all the heads turn and jaws drop. It's great
