I recently purchased a 69 Z-28 built in the LOS plant. The trim tag has code V044 in the accessory/options position. Any idea what that stands for? It has an 11D date of production. Also, I would like to correspond with anyone that may know something about the "quirks" or differences between the NOR plant and LOS. Thanks

The code V044 is more than likely just a "batch number". It appears to me that cars were built in "batches" sequenced by a person in the office that grouped dealer orders and scheduled which cars were built and when. Possibly the plant waited until they had enough cars of one type, say SS or Z28 or RS, then they were built in a group or batch. No one is saying what this number really means, but this is the speculated definition. Chevelles built in Kansas City have a number similar to this. Interesting why Van Nuys did not use the X codes like Norwood. I do not think that there were all that many Camaros built in Van Nuys. As many differences as there were from day to day production at any one plant, it would be hard to distinguish any nuances between two different assembly plants. Does your Z have any original markings on the firewall???

hey sf
I have a 69 LA built RS/SS. Mine was built 11B and I have the code of H744. I agree with Dave, these "codes" really have no value as in an option code. My car was the 8474th to come off the Van Nuys Line. I can also tell you that I found my Chassis Broadcast Sheet on top of my gas tank on the drivers side. Still legible after 29 years. Maybe yours is still there?? wouldnt hurt to check. |
