Default 68 Ragtop sane tire choice

making a Day2 Cruiser, have 15x7 Rallys already powdercoated, ready to go.

Few choices in Raised White Letter tires and my car sure needs a little more zing like RWL can supply.

Seems the BFG 215/65/15 are backordered or worse
Looked at 225/60/15, shorter, wider....
Is anybody running these on all four corners? Have seen people where the 235/60 rubs in the front. Would like to rotate the tires. Eventually they will go on my 68 Corvette

Anybody with these tires on the car, post up a snapshot please!

I have the 215/65/15's on 15x7 rallys in a stock suspension 69 z/28. If you look at my photo album you can see them there.

Dave,

THAT is the look....how much different would 225/60R15 look compared to the 215/65s? Do not want to add bulk. want LARGELY STOCK but sneak a bit more rubber in there

Im not sure how it would look from the side since they are shorter. I have seen themonthefront of cars and they look a little more agressive if viewed directly from the front since theyaare wider. Many people go the 235/60/15 route. good luck.

Thanks for the posts and the pics...hope we get a few other responses
I have always heard the 235/60 15 will rub to the inside. Also my pretty fiberglass on the 68 Vette when I swap on the TAs for driving vs bias ply redlines for show

George,
here's a pic of my 68 with 7" rallys and 225 x 60's. They fit well with no rubbing. I did try a set of 235's up front but they rubbed the fender every time I hit a dip in the road. IMHO 225 60's on the rear will be way to small & look funny. I have a set of 235 60's on the rear of our 68 Vert and they even look a little small with the rounded the fender wells.

On my 69 I'm running 225 60's up front & 235 60's in the rear and they seem to fit the car pretty good, although when it's time for tires again I will probably go back to 215 65's..

I hope this helps & good luck...

Nick,

I sure helps!
Here is the Camaro years back with the FRONT stock off my 70 Elky. Elky was visiting the paint shop. 215/65s on Welds

275/60 DRs....way too big

lame 14" and 75 series 'may pop' tires....when I took the car apart, I saw how REALLY SCREWED UP the tires were.

hmmm, 225s do look good, serious look at 235 rears

225/60's will have about 5mm or 3/16" less sidewall from edge of rim to outside of tire compared to the 215/65.

If you're going to stagger (and therefore not be able to rotate tires) I would go with a wider rear like a 255/60. As long as the backspacing is correct.

decisions, decisions.....

Met with pal Craig from Team Chevelle and local TCNWRacing site. He's a big fan of the Cooper Cobras. The 216/65R15 is available. Mickey Thompson does not make this size. oh hell

If you want two BF Goodrich tires in 215/65/15's, I've got two brand new in the box that I was about to send back. I know that they are very hard to come by these days for whatever reason.
