122377n121989. the cowl tag is 100 67-12437 nor 22450 6 709z c-2 2L-3L. Its a little hard to deciper it listed this way but I will try. Also seems some data is missing from the cowl tag?

122377N121989 is the VIN
1=Chevrolet Division of GM
22=Series=Non existant, 23 or 24 is used for Camaro, 23=6cyl, 24=V8
37=Style=2 dr hardtop/sport coupe
7=1967
N=Norwood, Ohio Assembly
121989=Sequence number starting at 100001 and up.

100=Plant tracking number
67-12437 = 1967 Camaro 2 dr sport coupe
nor 22450 = Norwood and the Fisher Body sequence number. (note-not related to the VIN seq number!)
6=??
709z = Trim = Gold Vinyl Bucket Seat Z=Bucket seat code for this trim color
c-2 = paint Info; C=Ermin White, 2=Black vinly top
2L-3L are options codes by groups
2L= Group 2 option code L=M20 4speed, note M21 or M22 could also have this code but unlikely in this case because no group 4 high performance engines.
3L= Group 3 option code L=Z22 Rally Sport RS

100 is actually 10D, 4th week of Oct.
6 is G for the gold interior paint.
That's a standard interior.

What was the third digit of the VIN?

We need some more info on the drivetrain to tell you the original engine. The car was built just as they started to introduce the 4P code into production, so the lack of it does not exclude a L30 or L48.
