Please bear with me. I am new at this. Which parts have to match before a car is considered numbers matching?
My camaro has matching numbers for the car on the block, intake manifold, heads, transmission & tail, and rear end. The starter motor and water pump castings do not match. Would my car be considered "numbers matching"? |

Most people consider the term "matching numbers" to be that the engine block numbers and the transmission housing match the last 7 numbers of the VIN. I see it as a bonus if you get the right heads, carb, distributor and alternator.

I would also consider the partial VIN found on the body as part of a matching numbers car.

Matching #'s is very generic and often mis-used. At minimum, it means the car has the original engine, perhaps transmission and rear axle too. At the other extreme, it can mean that the heads and all engine / drivetrain parts are correct for the car, including dates.
