Please bear with me. I am new at this. Which parts have to match before a car is considered numbers matching?

My camaro has matching numbers for the car on the block, intake manifold, heads, transmission & tail, and rear end. The starter motor and water pump castings do not match. Would my car be considered "numbers matching"?

Most people consider the term "matching numbers" to be that the engine block numbers and the transmission housing match the last 7 numbers of the VIN. I see it as a bonus if you get the right heads, carb, distributor and alternator.

I would also consider the partial VIN found on the body as part of a matching numbers car.

Matching #'s is very generic and often mis-used. At minimum, it means the car has the original engine, perhaps transmission and rear axle too. At the other extreme, it can mean that the heads and all engine / drivetrain parts are correct for the car, including dates.
