Well that's interesting...
What is the info on your cowl Tag?? Looks like someone changed the VIN tag on ya. Look thru your vent panel (the panel thats between the hood and the windshield, the wipers go thru this)on the passenger side. You may have to get a flashlight. A Partial VIN is stamped into the cowl there. It should read 19L5***** or 19N5*****. this is also stamped on most subframes. If you find this number and get the ones on your cowl tag, we can figure out the real VIN. Which actually might be scary to find out where it traces to. I guess that's up to you, but something is definately WRONG. |

Another place to look is under the cowl panel (the sheet metal piece between the hood and the windshield with the slots in it). The VIN number is stamped there also. You aren't going to like what you see there, I would bet. The unit number on your trim tag is off as well, because it should start with NOR5....
But hey, who cares if you're enjoying the car right? (Unless you paid for a Z). |

Sounds to me like it´s 911 time ACEss.Who ever sold you that car has commited fraud.
Besides on the cowl, you should also have the same number below-or under-the heater box.Not an easily accesible spot. ------------------ DVC-98.Racing 482 cubes of fogger injected thunder in a 71 z. racing@mbox303.swipnet.se |

All that probably means is the vin 1536992027156 is legit but is the Camaro? I agree you may have something illegal here? Makes you wonder about inspections ($$$ is all the realy want) when they don't catch the the bogus VIN?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Here's the info form your cowl tag: 12437 = Sport coupe V8 NOR = Norwood, OH assembly Plant 360645 = Body Seq number TR = Trim 711= Black Standard interior 69 69 = Cortez Silver upper and lower 06A = built first week of June 69 X77= Base car w/Z28 D80= Front & Rear spoilers Looks like you at least have the data plate from a 69 Z28. It's possible that this could have been put on the car also. Look at the rivets and the plate. the plate should be flat against the cowl. Good Luck |

Just wondering what ever became of this car and the dealings with the wrong VIN on the car. Also when you insured it did they insure it as a Camaro or as the car the VIN shows it was?

Yup, VIN plate is from a '69 Biscayne built at Ste. Therese, Quebec; the Camaro was probably stolen, VIN plate swapped, and put on a ship for Puerto Rico. I'd just keep quiet about it if nobody in PR knows the difference; if you make an issue of it with the original Camaro VIN that's stamped under the cowl vent grille, they could find out in about ten seconds that it's stolen, impound it, and you're out of a car. Legally, the car still belongs either to the owner from whom it was stolen or to the insurance company who paid the theft claim.
