That's a funny looking "9". Looks like they stamped a "q" or an upside down "b". They just barely got that VIN on there too. Somebody was having a bad day. Was that a Monday? LOL. The factory broach marks on the block look good though. What condition is the car in? Should be a keeper.

Hello Rick, I think the 9 is correct, the Tonawanda plant used different characters than the Flint plant so i was told many years ago , and i have seen this style of 9 on lots of original 65-69 Corvette Big Blocks in the last 20 years. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input!

I did not get the whole car........only the block. If someone comes across that VIN # car, you know where your block is at.

I bought my 396 car less engine and trans. I'm going to build and install this L89 engine into my car. It will NOT get decked or re-stamped. It is even date correct for my car.

I traded my '69 Vette 427/400 L68 block for the L89 block. It also has NOT been decked and has the original broach marks and "LQ" code, and Vette VIN # still on it.

Kinda funny trading a 427 for a 396.

I think that with both engines being built similiar, you might see only a 30-40hp. difference.
