Nov. 68 built block
Oct. 68 built tranny
Jan. 69 built rear
Jun. 69 built body????

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6161

Isn't that a bit of a spread?

That is the result of starting with a hulk w/o drivetrain. May be an ex-race car or a theft recovery. Scounge around, find a '69 302, a Muncie, a '69 12 posi.

This car has incorrect/missing parts, non-OE drivetrain, stuff done wrong and shows signs of poor resto work. But someone is still willing to pay over $26,000. Best part, the owner thinks it is worth more.

Question

Looks like a decent car to me, sure it's not matching #'s, but it IS a real X-33 car. Where do you see signs of poor restoration work? Am I missing something here?

I wouldn't kick it out of the garage but there are a lot of things like the part of outter area of the grill that should be body color and the rubber under the gas tank pads. Lots of under hood details could be better too. Ty-wraps, hose clamps and the master cyl and valving are not correct. And the exhaust exits like a '67 or '68 instead of '69

Reserve should have been met about $4000 ago IMO... It's still a nice car but not what it's being passed off as.

Why because he typed the Trim Tag info out in the add and it has X33 on it?

See that clamp on the passenger side inner fender that the heater hose is tie wrapped to it? That's an A/C hose tie down clamp used to hold the evaporator to Compressor Hose from wandering around under the hood. You don't find those clamps just laying around, they are not reproed and usually don't see A/C components under the hood of a Z28. The passenger side firewall has some unique holes in it, and just doesn't look right. I could be wrong but I think that the car originally had A/C and firewall has been patched. that's not a disc brake master cylinder distribution valve and proportioning valve (there isn't one) setup, the booster is either brand new, or replated.

Take away the cobbled together drive train and you've got no evidence left on the car outside the X33 on the trim tag that this car was a Z28. The VIN and the body number work well together but I'd like to see a picture of the trim tag.

I'd have to ask for my money back if I paid somebody to do the 'professional' wiring job. Still a nice looking car, but I do wonder about those extra holes on the firewall above the heater box.

"Where do you see signs of poor restoration work? Am I missing something here?"

Wrong master & valve, headers, missing AIR system, later alt bracket, NAPA alternator & rad cap, incorrect tstat housing, holes in firewall, missing cowl seal, grille incorrectly finished, missing rear guards, NAPA shift knob & radio, MIDAS exhaust, flat black everywhere. And the drivetrain issues.

It's been on ebay before. What can he think this mess is worth?

That sad part is reserve is probably at least $30k and you can find #'s matching correct Z/28's for not much more than that.

A friend bought a decent, numbers-matching '69 Z/28 last year for way less than $30k although he has had to spend a few bucks to upgrade it.

Man, you guys don't miss a thing, do you! Seriously, I didn't look at the engine compartment pics that closely, but I can now see your point. I guess I really was missing something here!!! Open mouth, insert foot.......

Not to mention the transmission is out of a 1968 car. P8R07, where 8 is the model year (1968), not when the trans was made.

There is a big difference in detail in this car than a 30K + car. This car should be in the low 20's.

Here I thought that the only missing item was the "caution fan" sticker Seriously, it is amazing that a person with a car like this has no clue that websites like this exists. He should at least have a private auction. Wrong bumper guards, grill color (argent) and shift knob also.
