I have been told that my engine is a 1967 302 engine. Can anyone help.
Casting number is 3892657
Stamping number is M0702FMO

3892657 is certainly the casting number for a 67 302\290hp and i'm pretty sure MO is
the suffix for a camaro 302. The casting number can also be a 327 or 350. someone back me up here,

That is a 302 block, but the casting was also used for 327 Chevelles and Corvettes. It was also for 302, 327, and 350 Camaros.

Please check the stamping again. MO does designate Camaro, but the stamping sequence is wrong. It should be something like the following:

F0702MO
F = Assembly Plant (Flint)
0702 = Date of assembly (July 2)
MO = Application (1967-68 Camaro 302/290)

I do not know if Flint was the plant for the 302.

It should be V0703MO for a 67 302. Do you have a 67 Camaro it's in right now?

To Jeff and Kurt, The engine is not in an existing 67 Camaro. I have purchased a 67 rs that I am in the process of building to the Trans Am racing configuration and am hoping to race in some of the vintage classes. The stamped number is what made me wonder. I guess that is is possible that it has been restamped by someone along the way. In any cas I am going to build it up as a 302 for racing purposes. I am making most of the mods per instructions from Dick Guldstrand. Is this site interested in following a project such as this?

I think you are missing the point of our questions. An original Z block has value.

Could you recheck the engine code and see if there is a VIN on the block? Let us know what you find.

A true 67 block would not have a vin number stamped on the block, hence if it had one in either location it would definatly not be a 67 block. In addition if the stamped code on the front of the block was FMO as stated it would not be from the 60s anyway.

Umm, most 67's I've seen have the VIN stamped on them. It's the exception not to have it. I believe it was a federal requirement before 67.

The block is correct for 67 and there is no FMO code, hence asking for the recheck.
