how can I assess that this vin number belongs to my car. Can you recommend an online location where I could do a title search.

I don't have my VIN book handy, so this is from memory...
1-USA built. 2=canada, 3=mexico
G-GM
1-Chevrolet
A-seat belt type...passive restraints
S-Camaro sport coupe, P=Z28
87-coupe
H-305 4-bbl non H/O
X-check digit...means nothing to anyone but GM
E-1984
L-Van Nuys assembly plant
141181- Sequential VIN number.
So yes, this probably is your correct VIN.

Definitely a 1984 berlinetta as I have an identical VIN on my registration execpt a different 6 number sequence.
