Can anyone help me identify what the tag on my 1968 Camaro TH400 trans breaks down to. The Code is C 68T300 T. My books show it should be CC for Yipsilani (sp?) and I know the 68 means 1968 and the 300 is the Julian date, but does anyone know what the CT means? The trans also had CT stenciled in yellow on the housing on the passenger side. Is this a replacement trans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not an expert on auto trans codes, but my source (Colvin) says the T is for 10 and 20 series trucks.
And that's Ypsilanti, home of the Willow Run assembly plant, right next to the Hydramatic plant. About 5 miles away. |

C 68T300 T.
The parts catalog shows the first letter as the plant and type. C=Cleveland (Powerglide) passenger, Truck (non-specific) 68=1968 T=Truck For 1968 the assembly date code (i.e. 300) started the with the first day of the calender year of 1967 and continued into the 1968 production year. This tranny apparently was built in 1967, sometime in mid November. T=Truck again? Everything points to a truck. Ypsilanti is not shown anywhere as a source for trannys. CT is the UPC (Uniform Product Code)code for assembly line use, build sheet box would have the letters CT in them telling them which tranny went in the truck they were building. There should be some VIN numbers stamped on the case somewhere that would relate to the final assembly plant, the model year and the VIn sequence. |
