I thought that I saw a magazine article once that had a device similar to an adjustable brake bias unit that was on the power steering return line. This enabled the person tho tune the power steering line pressure. This would let you determine how easy or difficult the steering was. Does anyone know anyone using one of these or have any information on them.

Never heard of it before. In theory, this retriction on the return line will only decrease the delta P across the pump and therefore you can only decrease the effective work of the PS unit. Do you really want to dial-in more effort required in your power steering?

IMO the stock 69 p/s pump is a little overpowering, not as bad as a Caddy or Lincoln, but it still feels overboosted.
I am much happier with the higher effort required with an AGR Steering close ratio box I added to my car not too long ago. Like I said, my opinion, and I suspect it's all a matter of preference. ------------------ Hugger Orange & white 69 Camaro with supercharged 350, Tremec TKO, and 3.73 12-bolt See my website updated 8/13/00 at: www.geocities.com/gheatly |

I agree with Gheatly. I have a ARG box and love it too. It has a 35 lbs. power value which gives it a great feel.

Steering effort is controlled by a torsion bar connected to the power steering controll valve. The thinner the torsion bar the greater the less the effort.
Later model boxes have a thicker torsion bar for more effort. The IROC is highest. The Z/28 is just a little less. I personally like the 80's Z/28 effort level. I find the IROC to be a bit much during autocrosses. In stock class you can't use a racing seat, and at just over 1 G cornering we were getting I found myself hanging onto the steering wheel for support. This gave me a kind of a tennis elbow on events where we did repeated runs like a Pro Solo event. We would get around 12 separate one minute runs in one day. On the street either would work fine. David Hydraulic pressre will affect effort a little but is not the best way to controll it.
