Well I ordered my subframe connectors from Summit today and was about to order some basic traction bars but thought I'd look at my suspension before doing so, and I noticed that on my monoleaf rear it looks like the shock mount brackets are right in the way of where the traction bars would mount. Has anyone with monoleaf's had a problem with mounting traction bars? The left side looks ok since the left shock mounts to the rear of the axle housing, but the right side mounts in front of the axle housing and looks like it would be right in the way of mounting the traction bars. I plan on getting multi leaf springs in the future but budgetary constraints won't allow it for a while yet. Also what type of mod's will I be looking at to change from the monoleaf's to multileaf's??

I think you'll be ok. The better traction bars will have 4 shock mounting tabs on each corner of the base. This is to accomidate shocks like the camaros that are on oposite sides of the rear end housing.

Traction bars like Lakewood and Comp. Engineering replace the old spring plate with shock mounts. Cheap "universals" that clamp on teh springs should never be used. Get teh good stuff, a simple bolt on.

I have the Competition Engineering bars on my 67 with monoleafs. Codi is right, they replace the bottom plate holding the spring. You will have to drill the two rear holes bigger to accept the j-bolts, other than that they are a bolt on. Don't use the cheapo clamp on type, they will probably bend your springs. It is very important for the snubber on the bar to hit on the very front of the spring underneath the bolt. Most of the cheaper bars are too short.

I have caltracts, a relativly new style of traction bar that can be easily "backed off" when desired. While they are more expensive than "universal traction bars" they come with a new shock plate that relocates the bottom shock mount inward giving quite abit more tire room. The shock is no longer the limiting factor on tire size - now the tire would first rub against the inner wheel well. Try looking at www.calvertracing.com

thanks for all the response guys. I'm leaning toward the Competition Engineering Bars as the Cal-Trac's are way out of my budget for traction bars at this time. I didn't know that they came with replacement plates for the springs. Now it is becoming more clear. thanks again.
