The only adjustment is the screw/locknut on top, it adjusts the lash by pushing the sector gear down. When you screw the screw in, it gets tighter, but be careful, if you go too tight, the gear will want to "stick" on center, it will feel real funny and bad. Do it with the wheels in the air so it's really easy to turn the wheel.

Center the steering. Loosen the lock nut, then turn the screw clockwise until it causes a slight binding when you turn the input shaft. Then turn the screw counterclockwise about 1/8-turn. Hold it still while you tighten the lock nut. Turn the input shaft a half-turn to either side & make sure it's not binding at those positions (sometimes they wear more at the center).

I have a paper on how to adjust your manual steering gear by feel in-car. It requires that you procede carefully since you must drive the vehicle after each adjustment.

Too much preload can result in your car having very little (or no) returnability (i.e. the steering wheel won't return to center).

The paper can be found at www.corvettefaq.com/A-car.asp and is the very last one.

Here is a direct link: http://www.corvettefaq.com/acar/Manu...tInVehicle.doc
