I got my springs in this afternoon, and now I don't know if I should tighten the red poly spring shackle bushings down until the shackles bottom out against the bolts "shoulders" or not??
I'm reusing my '67's stock shackles because they were fine. they were bottomed out with the rubber stock bushings but they seem way too "solid and tight" when I bottom the poly bushings. Please advise. pdq67 |

I Dont believe you bottom them out, I think there is a torque for those, Id recommend calling the company you bought them from and ask if they might know.
When I replaced mine I didnt torque them cause of the limited space, but I didnt bottom them out and have had no problems. i did this about a year ago. If I find the answer in my spec book Ill let you know. Good luck! ------------------ |

Mike,
Thanks for the come back. I'm going to back the nuts off the shackles and see what happens. I do know that I had to use a homemade "all-thread/washer/nut" press to put the frame bushings in and they were "SO" tight that I had to use 16" channel-locks to press the upper "half shackle" bolt in place. pdq67 |

When you're installing the frame bushings, you really need to clean out the holes with some 80 grit paper or the likes. There can be a lot of crud lurking inside where you can't see which would make the press tight. Bob

69er,
I did and even "sandpapered" the shackle bolts. They are still "VERY" tight. Thanks for the comeback. pdq67 |

When I did mine, The shackle bolts were of a shoulder type. You tightened them all the way against the shoulder.

69er,
I'm going to try them "loose" first. Once I get my car running, I have feeling that everything will loosen up when the power hits the street. Then, I will torque them down until the shackles bottom. pdq67 |

When you press them in you should leave them in the frig over night. That will shrink them down a little until they warm up again. Also put some silicone lube on them to help the press go easy.

69er,
The "frig" idea was OK, I will remember it next time. Thanks. pdq67 |
