I have a Global West 1 1/8 " sway bar I'm installing. Thanks for info from earlier posts. I REALLY didn't think it would go in without removing a lower control arm but it did. What torque settings should I use for the end links that have poly bushings? Also, the end links were a VERY tight fit that needed a bit of grinding on the upper ball joint bolt ends to fit the nut on. I also had to notch the lip on the subframe by the spring to clear the sway bar bushing braket end. Normal? I didn't see any alternative.

RickD,
If your car is lowered quite a bit, you may find your sway bar arms are not level anymore. If this is the case, the center of the bar will rotate to come near the vibration damper. I'd consider shortening the metal sleve spacer on the end links to fix it. I'd keep the links a little on the long side because they will start pulling at an angle to the bar end at high suspension travel. I think the factory end link bolt has a sholder on it and you just tighten the nut down till it hits bottom. I'm not shure what type you have. In general I think the end link bolts should be tightened like you do on shock absorbers. For them, you tighten until the bushing swells as large as the cup type washer. If your hardware is different I'd go until it feels right. Make shure the nut is a self locking type, either crimped or nylock. The factory spec is 8 ft lbs. Which seems too low. Does the bar look good? I'm thinking of buying one. David ------------------ The older I get, the faster I was! |

Yep, I had to cut my sleves down to make the bar angles correct. No big deal, I just added some threads to the bolt so no cost was involved.
Is the Global West bar hollow as well? If so, is the wall thickness the same at the Hotchkis? ------------------ Click here to see see my car and hear 5-speeds. http://www.geocities.com/casanoc |

I'll take a look in the morning at the bar angles. However, have others had to notch the frame lip by the coil spring to fit the sway bar brackets? I didn't want to trim the bracket itself because I would have wound up with having to remove about 1/3 of the end, leaving an open slot with less rigidity if I am explaining this clearly. The bar is hollow but I don't know the wall thickness. It certainly is beefy! I also have the Global West springs that will lower the front 1" with a 500 # rate. Lastly, I still have to install their solid control arm bushings.

When I did mine (AddCo 1 1/8") the endlinks supplied with the bar were way too long, but, the High Energy Suspension Poly bushing kit came with a set that were perfect.

RickD,
If you have not put the bar in the car can you please weigh the bar and post your findings. It will be interesting to compare Hotchkis vs GW vs 1" solid. Thanks. Carl ------------------ Click here to see see my car and hear 5-speeds. http://www.geocities.com/casanoc |

Good idea, maybe you can check the shipping weight.

As of now, the bar's installed. I had the bar shipped along with springs, offset upper control arm shafts bushings and body mounts so the shipping weight isn't of help. I am putting the front back together to get some driving time in but will be pulling the front apart again in a few months for more 'tweaks'. I'll weigh the bar then. I also have a call into Doug at Global West so I'll ask him for some specs.

I weighed it on a bathroom scale and it is 5 to 5.5 lbs couldn't get a decent reading. I thought I would try a fish scale or if you guys have any ideas shoot. My bar won't be on the car for awhile so I have some time. If the weight is ok for what you guys need let me know or I will try to get a better weight. later

Joseph,
How much does your new Hotchkis bar weigh? We should have weighed it on Saturday. That thing is REALLY light! ------------------ Click here to see see my car and hear 5-speeds. http://www.geocities.com/casanoc |

I have a digital bathroom scale that is accurate to +/- 0.5lbs. I weighed the bar alone and with me minus my weight and got 6 lbs. Wow, that is light!

mo67cam,
I see by your post you have a BB with a 700r4. i am planning on installing a 700r4 in my BB 67. How does your's work, and what problems do I need to look-out for on this install. I've been told it won't hold up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
