If you are upgrading to discs, I would go ahead and spend the extra $$ for Baer brakes. I don't really remember, but I think their front kit goes for $1,200 to $1,300.

Master power brakes seem to be the choice on this board. I personally am going to buy their product whenever I can come up with the dough. You can visit them at www.mpbrakes.com They have a instruction video which is helpful for novices such as I

Stainless Steel brakes has a new caliper with street type seals in it.
Baer has streetable stuff too.

Master Power has stock type parts from the spindle up.

The willwood brakes are more like race brakes I think. They don't have dust seals as far as I know.
They should work well on the street if you don't drive on dirt roads and in a lot of mud or water. Their kits just seem too small a caliper and rotor for a high perf street setup.
Global west sells a kit with Willwood calipers that are bigger size, with bigger rotors too.

Wilwood is working on a 13" 6 piston setup, but it is not released yet. They said that is will cost around 1500 and does not come with any hoses or master cylinder.

that kit at MPB is about the cheapest I have seen for a complete kit, most are in the 900-1100 range, but this one is complete for a little over 700 bux. Everything is included.

thats a good deal. (at least to what I have seen so far) , I thought of going the route and using DavidPozzi's pages for a reference to locating old cars with disc brakes that I could use, only to realize after replacing the rotors and rebuilding the calipers and all the work I would spend almost 1/2 to 3/4 the price of the new ones.

BTW Dave , very nice pages on brakes and suspension.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to do a lot of testing with a lot of different companies. Your answer should be built upon this...availability on replacement parts and where can you buy them. I am not really biased, but I have done a lot of work with Baer. I currently have 13" PBR in a 16" wheel and have had unpresidented results. Considering that the car is street driven, yet has enough brake to run 13 roadraces and numerous autocross', all year round. The best thing is I can buy parts ANYWHERE across the country at a molments notice. Not to trash other companies, but per-say Willwood, you can not just walk into Napa and buy replacment parts.
My car has done 60-0 in 96 feet w/semi-mets.
Can not say if anyone else's product can come even close.

Thanks Chris,
I would have put some info on costs on my page but I don't have any good numbers.
I should mention it though, as I feel you are right.
Why buy parts and then throw them away or use for cores?
The calipers are the only things you can rebuild anyway.

Hey Guys,
Its also time for me to upgrade from the drum/drum setup to something a "little" better . I was just wondering where I could price some Baer brakes online? I cant seem to find anyone that sells them...

My '68 has the Eibach pro-kit, Hotchkis Sway bar, and some 17" wheels and tires. I like to drag race and have fun in the twisties. I'm trying to get into the Auto-X stuff. Would you recommend the "Track" kit, or maybe the "Pro+"

Later

68 resto,
Stainless Steel Brakes has a nice conversion kit for around 900. Its called the super duty kit and comes with slotted 12 inch rotors, twin piston PBR calipers and braided brake hoses. It bolts onto the stock drum brake spindles and also includes a proportioning valve. I purchased this kit for high performance street driving after I decided I wanted a step up from a stock conversion. Haven't installed it on my 69 convertible yet(its still in the box) but it seems like a quality kit at a decent price.

I went with a basic Stainless Steel Brake set-up (front and rear) and while satisfied, in retrospect I wish I would have gone with a more upscale set-up like Baer. I'd probably take a look at the new higher end SSBC set-up they have now also.
