I had the same issue when I dropped my gas tank - a very thick coat of undercoating. All I did was get a good can of paint stripper (I think it was Red Devil brand) brushed it on, let it set,it turned the undercoating to mush and it wiped right off. Had to do a second appliation in some areas. I ended up with a shiny new looking gas tank. Then I painted it with POR-15 and some "fresh steel" paint. it looks great and I shouldn't have to worry about it for a very long time.

greg, i,ve put a new tank on my 69 and for the life of me i can,t remember how the vent tube goes? i seem to remember it coming up through the trunk and out the back panel around behind the bumber, but does it actually go in the tank, and if so where.time plays funny things to me.anyone know how it goes,i can,t find anything in the assembly manual.i,ve also replaced the trunk pan so there went any reference i had there.
