What length wheel studs should I use??
The aftermarket studs are about 3" long. Are these what everybody are using or are there shorter ones available?? It just seems that there will be a lot of stud sticking out past the lugnut. The '80 Cadillac Seville rear disk brake metric studs are about 1-7/16" long and my '67 drum brake studs are a little over 1" long installed. Where can I buy studs that will fit my drum brake hubs and axles but are 1-1/2" or 1-3/4" long or do I have to cut the excess threaded portion of the aftermarket studs off. Please advise. Thanks. pdq67 |

Rick's has 1-3/4" studs for about $1.75 each. I just re-built the 8.2 rear end out of my 67, including new axles, and I bought 10 new wheel studs from Rick's because I didn't think I had gotten new wheel studs with the axles. The rear end shop found them in a box so I have another 10 I don't need.
I won't be back home (St. Louis) until this Friday and I'll put a ruler on the ones I have. If interested, send me an e-mail with your address and I'll send them to you. ------------------ Mark M. Red 67 Convertible Red Deluxe Interior 383/Tremec 5 Speed 4 Wheel Disk |

As a rule of thumb, fastener manufacturers like to see 1.5 x thread diameter of thread exposed past the nut. In some cases this is not practical (rod bolts).
You may want to try a local car-related machine shop. Many of them carry various studs that may suit your needs. Brake shops should have a ton of them also. ------------------ Click here to see see my car and hear 5-speeds. http://www.geocities.com/casanoc |

memcgraw,
I just e-mailed you back (hope I did it right) to tell you I want your 10 wheel studs. If not reach me at pdmcconnell@yahoo.com. Send me your full name and address and tell me what you want for them and upon receipt of them, I will send you a money order. Thanks very much for the comeback to my post. pdq67 |
