Question

I've gone through all the postings and it seems this is a avoided subject...
Rather someone answers with different year or without answering with what back space they are running..
So cut and dry what size tire will work on a
15X8X4.5 rally on the front of a 67,68 camaro with tight stock height suspension...
And what combo would look good front and back...
It seems like it is going to be a compromise on filling the well and not rubbing...
Thanks for the great site I've learned quite alot here...

Here is my experience with all the numbers you are looking for.

Tire / Rim / Spring Info

If I dropped the front and rear another inch I still wouldn't have any rubbing issues.

Thanks for the reply but.... I have 4 15x8x4.5 rims not 7"x4.25 for the front. would this mean it would stick out another .375in? 1in wider rim minus the extra 1/4in B/S = 3/4 divided in half for center?
I am begining to think this is a unanswerable question very frustrating!!!!! every post is answered by changing the equation one way or the other....

Man, it all depends on the tire size. Running 295/60/15's on the front, well it's going to be a problem. Something a little smaller, say 225 or 235 should work.

What size tires are you running on the front? I might be able to mount one of my 15x8x4.25", 255/60/15's on the front and give you some feedback.

A 1/4" BS difference between my rims and your ain't going to make that much of a difference.

the 4.5 on front probaly will not work, i have 15x8 on rear with 4.5 backspace and 27/50/15 tires with no fitment problems, the fronts are 15x8 with 4 inch backspace and rub a tad when at full lock, i have gotten a set of 15x7 with 4 inch backspace for front that i will run 225-60-15 on, anyway goodluck

I had 235/60 on front 245/60's on back but was with a set of american racing outlaw wheels that I sold with a 80z28 I had.
I don't know what B/S they had but they didd'nt rub. I have the nose off at the moment and was wondering if anyone ran a 15x8x4.5 rally in front and what tires would work.
I appreciate the input.
I picked up 4 rally's from rallywheelman on ebay for $320 delivered with rings and plastic caps.
Now I'm wondering if I should swap out the fronts for 7"ers and be done with it. or if the 235's would work..
BB camaro what size tires are you running up front?all my family is in Bradford Me. 25mi NW of Bangor.
Thanks again for the input..

On my 67 I am running on the rear 15*8 rallies and 14*6 in the front the rear tires are 255/60/15s and I have hotchkis rear springs that lower the car 1 1/2 inch. I have a problem under hard corning or hard accel with passengers and bumps I will rub on the fender lip. I dont know what the backspacing is but I know it isnt right. These are supposed to be corvette rally rims. If the wheel was moved in closer to the frame this tire size would fit fine. I am about to put 15*7 rallies in the front with 235/60s on them and going to lower the front about 2 inches and I will see how it goes from there.

zack, the problem with your rears is the backspace as vette rally wheels only have 4 inches of backspace, you need a 15x8 with 4.5 inch backspace i have these on my car and the 275/50/15 fit perfect no rubbing at all, goodluck

Trick 1, This topic is hard to answer.
Threads indicate that 67/68 work fine with 15x7x4.25, but have yet to have someone fess up to a 15x8x4.5, maybe someone will try it??

You 69'ers stay away from this subject, as you can get away with larger rims/tires.

It is a taboo subject,It seems like they would stick out another 3/4in. but might get away with running a narrower tire.
I guess I will have to measure everything out and figure it out.
I will be posting findings sometime in the future.
Thanks for all the input.

Trick1,

Now you understand. I fiddled with tires/rims for 9 months trying to figure out what would work and what wouldn't. I spent some money only to have wasted it and not have combos fit the way I thought they would.

Everyone would apprectiate it if you come back and post your results after testing the various combos you have in mind.

Don't forget to measure and include ride height when you are done.

Good Luck!
