I have noticed a few drips of oil on the bottom front side of my 2bbl rochester carb (327 auto). I am a carb novice and don't really have a clue where this is coming from or how it is getting there? Leaky valve cover gasket blowing oil there?

Also, my carb is seaping gas from the seams. I am sure it is in need of rebuild. What is involved in a carb swap? Simple remove and replace. Or are there other things that have to be done like set timing, etc. Thanks.

Hey, Donny.

The oil is probably oil vapor coming thruogh the pvc hose. Did you do those valve seals yet?

Carb swaps pretty much take it off, put it on, set the idle speed, mixture, and choke.

On the 2bbl, not much to the rebuild, either, the $15 kit comes with good instructions, including all adjustments, just need a pan and some carb cleaner.

I actually grabbed a quart of MMO and ran it for a few hundred miles. The smoke on decel is little or none now, so I put off the valve seal job. I figure I'll have to get into the motor later on having 100k miles and being 36 years old.

Glad to hear good old, "snake-oil" named Marvel Mystery Oil came through again!!

But I bet you need seals BAD!!! They are probably "dry-cracked"??

I am sure they do need replaced. However, I can live with burning a little extra oil for now. Having too much fun driving her now, don't want to go for that rebuild quite yet.

Its been a mild winter here. We haven't had a good snow in years. I'll drive her once a week or so. Keeps the cob webs out and everything fresh. What are you doing to yours Jim? It doesn't look like you need to do anything to it.

Did you paint your front grill black? I have been thinking about taking mine off and painting it. Relly stands out and looks nice.

The pic in my sig is a good pic... car was clean, my wife (a pro) shot it, and we got the light such that the wavy doors don't really show... made it look as good as it could.

Not quite as nice in real life, I'm afraid... A lousy paint job on top of a hal-a$$ed resto, and badly in need of pretty much a lil of everything, especially some major league detailing under the hood.

If you get time for some reading, search out my thousand or so posts since Thanksgiving...lol I been busy.

Well keep up the good work. Post some pics while your in the process. And take lots of pics. I've been doing that every time I make a mod. Makes nice for a website, and a good memory tool if you forget. I've updated the pics on my site in the past few days. These are much better resolution.

Spent some time on your site, Donny, car looks sharp! I like the wheels, nice clean look w/ no trim rings, baby caps, and all chrome.
