After a couple times of starting my car and turning it off (to check some electrical connections) my starter started to make some really bad noises. Has this ever happened to anybody. I am not sure if it is just dying or something is causing this to happen. The car will start sometimes without making this noise and sometimes with the noise.
Any thoughts? |

Is it a grinding noise? If so did you just recently install this starter? You might want to loosen it up (fairly loose), and then while pushing up on the front of the starter (the part farthest away from the flywheel) and tighten it up while you keep pressure on the end of the starter.
If that doesn't stop your noise there are a few things you need to check. 1. Flywheel and starter teeth. 2. starter to flywheel clearance, you can adjust this with shims. Make sure you don't have a cracked flywheel (very dangerous) I have seen this cause the starter to grind. I am assuming you just installed the starter or engine. ------------------ Royce (NO XQSSS) Bradley 70 Camaro 385ci 11.90's on street tires, pump gas, no nitrous, no trailer. 69 Camaro (sold) 71 Vega (still building) 2000 GMC Z71 Harley Davidson FXR Camaro pictures http://community.webshots.com/user/camaroman7d |

It is not really a grinding noise. It is more like a moaning or grunting. It is just an ugly noise. This is the same starter that came on the engine when I bought the car, and the engine is a new ZZ4 ( I think ). I am going to go get a new starter tomorrow and see what happens. I think my starter is just dying. We looked to see what kind we have today and it is an Exide. Are these good starters?
Thanks for the help |
