Question

Sorry to repost this, but no one replied last time......I'm in the market for a new exhaust system for my 87 IROC-Z. My y-pipe is busted at the union, and I may go for headers while I'm replacing everything. Any opinions on who and what produces good performance and sound? The car is straight stock so far, so I'm not looking to go racing... Just would like some informed opinions. Thanks

Sorry no-one replied to your earlier post.
I don't know for sure exactly what kind of system your looking for or how much 'leg-work' you've done already researching systems available?
Edelbrock offers both a TES (Tubular Exhaust System or near-Headers) and a CatBack system for your car. These are almost completely 'Bolt-On" so you could most if not all the work yourself.
Flowmaster and many others offer CatBack systems just for the rear parts of your exhaust system. These offer the 'power-sound' most people are looking for and are fairly straight forward to install in your driveway (depending on who's "system" you select) as some come with all brackets etc.
There is also the 'Local muffler shop' route if you are looking for someone to recommend and install a system. Ask people with similar cars to yours or cars that you like the sound of where they got their systems.
Also try;

These boards have threads specifically for your Gen of F-body and many have some posts you can search for info.

Hope some of this helps;

John
