Question

Just wondering what are some of the stranger things that you have come across in a restoration, either from the factory or a previous owner.

I don't remember anything particulary weird about my camaro, but we did find a spare door lock with key inside the door on the vette. (The power windows worked much better after it was removed.) And, we found that the front fender on Brian's truck had been welded to the cab !!

What's your story ?

When I had my dash apart replacing venting etc I found 3 pens, a dime, a empty match book and a ton of lint down the defroster tubes...

When I removed the rear door panel (by the way have you noticed the rear quarter interior panels are refered to as door panels even though there is no door back there?)anyway I found a plastic flashlight with quite corroded batteries that had GM stamped on it. Also found a receipt from a McDonalds somewhere in Sacramento, CA for $1.96. It was for a double cheeseburger, regular fries and a medium coke dated sometime in 1972. Lastly I found the nest made by the varmits that pooped all over the seats. It was in the heater box.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Had my door panels off a while back and instead of the brown paper type material that is used to keep the panels from getting wet, the previous owner had used some plastic package wrap that said "Tennessee Country Cured Ham". It was printed over and over with a picture of a big ham.

Maybe that's why my car is as slow as a pig.

I found a bag of weed stuffed under the dash of a car I bought at a Police auction for a 100 bucks. I think it was an old Delta 88, I can't remember for sure. My memory hasn't been very good since that discovery. Did I mention it was good weed? Just kidding Dennis!!!!!! Thumbs up

I found out that my recently purchased 1967 was a 1968 stolen from Los Angeles in June of 1981 and never recovered... how's that for a discovery! It all turned out well, I got the car back and the judge waived over 800 bucks in Impound Fees since we (tag team folks of camaros.net) figured out it was stolen, after both the DMV & local police said it was fine. Thanks again foks!

I bought my 67 from a guy who owned a used car lot. He couldn't sell it on the lot and he didn't sell it to me the first time I looked at it. He wanted way too much. I waited and watched and finally he dropped the price, so I made my offer, which he took. When I got the car home and cleaned it up, I found a high school ID, parking permit, and an english paper. Apparently, a high school kid owned the car before the guy I bought it
from.

I laughed my A$$ off when I found the paper. It was a book report and he got an F!

The RS had been wrecked when I bought it and there was glass all over the back floor. Funny thing was no glass was broke in the car! Years later when I finally pulled the rear side panel off behind drivers door I saw more glass, and the entire metal structure in that area just hashed. Can't believe the window works good. Looked carefully at the quarter panel from the inside and saw no cuts or bondo signs. Everything looked solid on the outer sheetmetal. Could NOT figure out what the hell happened here until I saw the gal I got the car from. She say's "Oh yea, that's were the stop sign went through the car and punctured the passenger seat!" She say's, "That sucker almost got me, yep, speared the car good". They cut in a new quarter, that's why I didn't see any outside signs of damage. The stories some of these cars could tell!!

So far the only thing I've found during my resto was four huge handfulls of leaves and dirt mashed in the vents after I removed my kick panels.

I found a little clear plastic mouse in the AC/heater box when I took it out for the new Vintage air unit this past summer. The little fellow looked quite original. Could it have been the first happy meal toy? Maybe I should take it to the antique roadshow and see what it's worth--being that it's in excellent condition and all.....

Back in 1978 when I was a teenager I found a 1960 Nixon for President pin ( the kind you stick on your coat)under the rear seat of my 55 chevy. I threw it in the top of my tool box were it sat for a couple years. They one day while cleaning I chucked it in the trash.

Please forgive me

I found a Shell credit receipt under the dash. $5.00 bought 11.2 gallons of premium. I figure it must have been in the early 70s. It has the license plate number & State (CA) on it. I've tried to track that down with no luck. Privacy laws in CA prevent giving out any info.

i had a 68, it sat outside before i bought it, and for alittle while after. so one evening i thought i would push it in the garage and look it over good. so i took a da to the rear quarters to see how much mud and paint it had on it. well i da'd for a few minutes and when i stopped the car was still humming???? about two seconds later quite a few very upset bumble bees started to emerge from everywhere. I did'nt know wether to sh.. or run. so i grabed some fast drying prymer and began to fog my garage, it worked pretty good, it would get on there wings and dry and down they went. so i spent some time spraying and dancing (stepping on them as they went down). slowly the fog disapeated and i did'nt have any stings. that's one thing i dont care to ever find in a car again.
