Question

I'm now looking for carb to fit on my edelbrock performer intake on top of my 327. I think that 600CFM is the right size however what is the major advantage/disadvantage between mech and electric choke?

thanks

I can't think of any disadvantage to the electric choke. It's kinda like power steering, there really isn't any downsides. Some people have problems with them, but I've never had one go faulty. Well, it does cost more, but I think it's worth it.

The only disadvantages to an electric choke is that they tend to choke a warm motor more than they should. The choke coil cools off faster than the engine itself.

The disadvantages to a mechanical choke is that they require manifold heat which robs performance. Also, the heat riser passage gets blocked over time and is a real pain (and expensive) to fix.

Go with the electric and give it a seasonal adjustment as needed to help with the warm choke issue and you'll be happy I'm sure.
