Would like to know if there are different head designs for the '69 302cu. I have heard that "angle plug heads" are significant and are "better". I am confused on this issue, is this a factory stock option or what? thanks

The DZ heads, if I remember correctly, have 2.02/1.60 valves with straight plugs.

thanks. does that mean that if a 302 has angle plug heads, that it is not an orignal factory setup.....because I am looking at one now with this setup but want an all factory stock z/28.

The heads should be numbered 3927186 or 3947041 if they are really 1969 Z-28 heads (DZ). I don't believe that angled plug heads were used in 302's, but I may be wrong.

From what I remember, the angle plug heads were never factory installed on any Z. This was a very popular add on. Original heads would have the straight plug.

The 292 turbo angle plug heads were never used in any factory application. The 186 head is the '69-'70 Z28 head. These heads had straight plugs, with the gasket. Tapered seats started on the small block in '71.
There is a small difference in the 186 head from '69 to '70. The '69 did not use screw-in studs and guide plates, whereas the '70 186 head did receive these. |
