I have a 6-71 blower running on a 383sbc...
I took it out at night a few hrs ago..it went up to around 195 degrees, and my oil temp was a little past 210degrees. Sound ok to youall? Overall the car ran fine, I just didnt like the 195 deg. temperature.. the stock thermostat from BDS I believe was 180. |

Certainly not a problem, but if that was at night, how hot will it get during the day? Did it heat up sitting in traffic or going down the road?

The temperature you have described is acceptable. Engine temp of 195-205 and oil temp of 210-220 is actually advised as perfect, not only for performance but overall volumetric efficency. Most oil and the additives within them need to be at those temperatures to do their jubs as advertised.
Although, I do question the daytime running temp.....hopefully it wont be an issue. |

hmm.. I dont know what the temperature at night was..
it was stoplight to stoplight driving. What would be a warning as to its getting too hot? BTW, trans fluid temp was 155..pretty good for a 3500-3800 stall equiped th400, 4.88 gears out back..was at 2000 rpm in "D"rive. I havent driven it long enough during the day..night time is better because you may not notice the slicks. LOL |

My blower is a centrifugal, not a Roots, but I feel that my engine runs smoother and is more responsive to throttle inputs at 190-200*.

Your coolant and oil temp. sound good, you've got to remember that blower motors do run hotter than a normally aspriated motor though. I've got a 350 bored .040, solid cam, JE pistons, Eagle crank, Brodix Track 1 heads and a 8-71 sitting on top and can tell you that I did run towards the hot side last year. I'm running a high volume alum. water pump, Griffin radiator and thiis year no stat but rather a restrictor plate in it's place. So far in 75 degree weather no problems oil temp has gotten to about 210 and coolant temp up to abot 200. I just start getting nervous when the coolant temp gets around 215- 220. I also have an electric fan that flows 2950cfm and fabricated a radiator shroud out of alum to help direct airflow a bit better. Good luck.

yellow69:
Thats great to hear! My friend also told me to run a restrictor plate. I have a 180 deg stat in there now, but will switch to a 160 next week to see if there is anything different. @ 9pm last night it was 90 degrees (or ...85 or 88) and it was at 210 water temp, and a little over 210 on oil.. Are you running a oil cooler? I have the dual flexalite fans (Part # FLX-220) and also a alum radiator (no name brand..just a big ol' alum radiator), a Moroso high flow alum water pump. Can you send me pics of your radiator shroud? |
