Man I get excited thinking about doing some major stuff to my car. I need some advice. I have decided to go with a built up 700r4. My rear gears are 3.08. I need to know if cruising at 60mph will put my car under the power band of the motor.

Here is info on the engine: 383 stroker, edelbrock performer(not RPM) intake, comp cams extreme energy 268 cam, HEI ignition, S/R torquer heads, headers, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, 2.5" exhaust, KB hyperuetectic pistons, roller tip rockers.

This engine was designed with off idle to 5500 Rpm power in mind. I want to confirm that it won't be a dog cuising if the rpms go toward the 1800 mark around 55mph, etc.

Yes, I drive it ALOT and need to get some decent gas mileage.

Thanks for the help,
Lance

65mph would be around 1750rpm. That shouldn't be too too low for the motor. You will definately be getting good mileage. Even with a 3.73 gear you will only be turning 65mph at 2150rpm. Great for the highway either way.

With 4:11's I turn 2500rpm @ 70mph. That's with 26.6" tall rear tires

I have 3.73 gears in my 67 with a 700R4 and they work good. I have thought about changing mine to 3.42 for better highway mileage. I wouldn't go lower than 3.73 if you do alot of highway cruising. I normally drive 75 to 80 mph which is 2800 to 3000 rpm with 26" tall tires. To be honest I would try the 3.08 out first before changing the gear.

What kind of converter are you using, I've got a 2400 lockup stall in mine and it works great. I would definitly use a lockup converter if I were you.

Thanks for the advice,

I definitely plan on a lock up converter. I'll try out the current gear since will be the equivalent of 3.73s in the TH350 I have now.
