I've been searching for a Hurst Comp shifter for my 69 camaro with a 4 speed Muncie.

Do any of you guys have the correct part numbers for that application ???

The numbers people list on ebay seem to be all over the place, but they claim the shifter came from a 1st gen camaro etc....

On the Hurst website, the part number is 3917438....... but thats for the aftermarket, flat handle etc..... Some of the ones listed on ebay claim to be OEM units etc.

I also know the shifter is different for 67-68 vs 69......

I'm just trying to avoid getting ripped off by buying a shifter that is represented as a "compatible for 69 camaro", but isnt.

Frequently the last 4 digits of the chevrolet part numbers are stamped into the linkage. They can be found in the factory assy manual. I have a loose factory shifter but they don't all have numbers on them. Verify the linkage numbers from the seller and remember the big block linkage/bracket parts are unique from small block parts. Email me if you need pix.

Are you sure about that Mark?

I know the lock-out linkage is different but not the shifter linkage.
How would it make a differance if the shifter mounts to the trany?

I am absolutely sure about the big block having a different mounting bracket and different linkage. It is in the factory assembly manual that way.

The engine/transmission is in a different location for big block vs small block but the shifter itself must not move relative to the console or it would not fit. This requires different rods and bracket unique to the big block. The part numbers are:

Small-block: reverse #3955771 1-2 #9791876 3-4 #9791885 lower lock
#3955773

Big-block: reverse #3955779 1-2 #3955775 3-4 #3955777 lower lock
#3955776

The BB vs SB mounting bracket is different but I don't have the numbers handy. They are very different in apearance. Shifter stick/assy is the same either way.

Strange but true and realy does make sense when you consider how the big block is offset to one side. Another way they are different is the crossmebers. If the tranny was actualy in the same place, the crossmember would be the same, but it is not so the crossmember is different.

I'm looking for the whole shifter, not just the linkage. Most of the shifters I've seen on ebay, dont have the linkage included but some do.

Isnt there a part number on the shifter ??? (not the handle)

The levers are different for the Saginaw too! Are we having fun yet?

The spare factory shifter I have only has a "9 7A3" which I believe is a date code on the outside face along with the patent number and the "Hurst Competition/Plus" stamping. It has "3138" on the front of the shifter in tiny numerals near the bottom cover slot. That is probably the number you need to look for.

Hope this helps.

Mark is correct..the number is 3138...that number is used in both the Camaro and Firebird. They both used the same shifter body.

DRJDVM,
sorry I can't sell parts on this forum. It is not for sale anyway. I predict the correct ones will become as rare as hens teeth soon. Shifter itself can go for around $150 in average condition but the whole correct setup can go for $300-450 depending on condition. The repro linkage is a joke so you can forgetaboudit. Alec Manoccio has them for sale from time to time. If you need contact info email me offline.
