Hi,
My engine is recently rebuilded and after startup all went fine. I ran her for about 20 minutes at 2000 rpm and no problems occured.
Today I was starting her up again and all went fine for about 5 minutes then a very od sound comes from left bank of my engine. It is not a knocking or something like that. It sounds like when a fan belt is not tight enough but I dont have any belts mounted!
I did a check with ignition of and cranked her a few rounds and no sound, then I removed valve covers to se that oil was coming up when I was priming her with the right type of primer and a power drill. I started her again whitout covers and it was not much oil that reached the rockers but a little. The oil pressure is about 70.
(The preassure gauges range is 0-100)
I use pennzoil 20-50 and she doesnt smoke any and sounds great.

Some facts about the engine
I have recently changed pistonrings, mainbearings and three pushrods casue they were bent a little and so on in my BB 468"!
The engine has High perf heads and a holly 700dp, headers and electric waterpump. The alternator is not installed yet!

I dont know what to do and I am afraid of starting her up.
I have to say that the sound is following the rpm!
Please I know that you guys are helpful very good at engines. By the way the car is a camaro 67 pro-touring and I love her
regards jimmy, sweden

Did you figure out (and fix!) what caused the pushrods to bend?

I have got stiffer springs mounted, maybe this was the cause.

The stock steel pushrods still shouldn't bend unless there was an interference problem of some sort; coil spring bind, retainer to guide, etc.

One thing I have had happen on big blocks is to not have enough oil up top and it burns up the rockers. Squeeks like a squeeling fan belt. You ought to take a look at them and see if there's any that are dry, turning blue, etc. Also re-check the things above to figure out why the pushrods bent.

I agree with Jody. A galled rocker arm and ball make the most godawfull screech you will ever hear.

Hi again!
Today I removed my rockers and pushrods and all look fine except the exhaust rocker cylinder 1. It was total dry but whitout any od colour or damage. I decided that it was fine to lube it and try to prime the engine to se if oil reaches the rocker and it does. Then I ran her for about 20 minutes at diferent rpmīs and it was fine.
No sound at all

I had a friend to remove the cover and look a few times and it was ok.

This rocker cyl 1 and exhaust rocker on cyl 2 dont get so much oil compare to the others but ther is oil!!! Is this a common problem on big block?
I use a melling Hv pump and the oil pressure gauge when the engine is hot never goes under 50psi.
Is this to much?
I have to say that my rebuild of this engine woke her up again and that is fun
Thank you again!
regards jimmy

If you just rebuilt this engine then why are you running 20w-50 ? You should be running 10w-30 or 10w-40 unless you have a bearing clearance issue. It might even get you a little more oil up to the top.

Hi,
I have always ran her on 20-50 and I have ever looked on the other oils cause I had a major bearing issue before. Now my crank journals are .010 with new bearings so you are totaly right. I will change oil very soon and then I will test 10-40.
Thank you for the tip
