I was wondering if anyone could please help me through this. I have a 67 camaro with factory ac that works great, but now that its 100+ outside the 4 core copper was not enough with a machenal fan... sooo I put a 2 core alum (1 and a quarter inch) radiator in there with an overflow bottle and did a 80 h2o to 20 af, still with the mechanical... now driving around with no ac it never over heats(stays at 190)(as long as im moving) and with the ac it gets to 210-215 when im moving... is my problem air flow?? Should I get an elec fan to go with my clutch fan... and if so is it better to get a pusher or a puller?? I heard not all elec. fans are that great… I tried getting rid of my mechanical fan and just go with a 90 dollar puller fan but that worked like crap I also put some “water wetter” stuff that supposedly helps, I got a high efficiency water pump, 6 blade steal fan not a flex, oh and I do have a shroud ahhh I have tried and done so much…. How the heck does my Tahoe run at 200-210 all the time NO MATTER what, you could just sit in the parking lot with the AC on full blast and it NEVER overheats much less gets above 210, ahhhh I don’t know what to do! PLEASE HELP!

Are you running a fan shroud? Is your timing set correctly? Carbeurator too lean? Do you have a cylinder head gasket leak? Is your thermostat operating properly?

It sounds like there is some other problem going on to me.

yes i have a fan shroud, timing is correct i just checked it, the carb is a quad jet, thats fairly new i dont see why or how it would be running lean, no leaks, haha the thermostat, i thought that too and replaced it about 3 times so yeah i think its working now... but if my car is running to lean what does that do, i have never heard that before?

Sounds like you've done a hellova lot to improve things. All good. Airflow should be pretty good. You might try to do what you can to prevent air from recirculating around the core support. I believe AC cars have a rubber seal along the top of the radiator support for that purpose. Mine is still in pieces so going by recolection.

What I really wanted to say is depending on where your temperature sensor is, the guage could read higher due to more flow through the thermostat under a heat load. Point I'm trying to make is that it may not be "over heating". 200 to 215 in the block is not uncommon. Do you have access to an IR thermometer to read head temp? You also said you had a puke bottle. How does the fluid level in the bottle look between hot cruise no-AC and with the AC on. If the level is consistant your guage may be fooling you to some degree due to changes in coolant flow.

If you decide to do electric fans, make sure your electrical system can handle it. 1st gen electrical systems weren't up to the task. If you search the archives there is a preferred fan amoung the junk yard community. Seems like they are Ford or Chrystler products that have better flow / amp rating. Also cheap to aquire.
