I have a '68 with original 10 bolt and I am in the process of acquiring a 12 bolt posi from a 69 (Camaro) my question is : Will I need to adapt shock mounts or change drive shaft length or anything else or is it a straight swap? Thanks

Actually the driveshaft for a 10 bolt is slightly longer than a 12-bolt one. I just swapped out my 12-bolt for a 10 bolt (read: 3.73's too low for California freeways) and had to shorten the shaft by 1/2".

Kevin, you said the 10 bolt driveshaft was longer. If thats true, then if you changed out the 12 bolt for a 10 bolt wouldn't you need to lengthen the driveshaft, not shorten it?

My bad, sorry to mislead. I meant that the length of the differential where the driveshaft connects is longer which necessitates a shorter driveshaft.

check to see if they both had the same number of springs ie. monoleaf or multileaf you might have to change the rubbers in the perch.

I adapted a 66 chevelle 12 bolt for my 67 and
had to shorten the shaft by a 1/2 inch. The 69 12 bolt in my experience bolts right up except if you have mono leafs. You will have to change to multi leafs or change the perches. Been there and done it several times. Just my 2 pennies. |
