Are you talking about the ZZ430's? Is that the correct price?

Unfortunately, he IS talking about the ZZ430. Apparently, a lot of speculators got a hold of a bunch of these engines and think they are plated in gold or something. The last one I saw was priced pretty high too, but $12,500 takes the cake.
Bigdmd, I hope you paid close to GM's asking price for these, because that is all they are worth. I can build the exact same engine for less than half your asking price. Who cares that my version wasn't originally built by GM, very few of us with 67-69 Camaros have our car's original GM built engine anyway. The only two words I can think of are rip, and off, in that order.
ZZ4 engine with ZZ5 cam made 448 horses with Holley, small tube headers, on Horsepower TV. If they could do it with just a cam change, well, so can anybody, for far less than $12,500.00. I just really despize people who think they can get away with taking advantage of others. |

Let me put my (2)cents in, please. My 496 bb isn't going to run $5,000. But I've done a lot of comparison shopping and I'm going to put it together myself. I'm not going to run it much over 5500 rpm, but hey with all the power I'm expecting out of it, I won't have to for just "cruising". Sounds like alot of money for a small block. Does it come w/ the "SB-2" heads, intake, headers etc.??? I'm really not up on this "part #" engine. Please fill me in on what it's made of. pdq67

I was kidding; I knew what he meant. It's another example of someone taking advantage of a limited availability item. For $12,500 I would expect at least 700+ h.p. in a small block, billet crank and rods, best of everything, etc. built by a big-name engine builder. Eventually someone is going to be ripped-off when everyone else realizes that they're paying 2 1/2 to 3 times what the engine is worth and refuses to buy them anymore at that obsene price.
Heck, there's a guy advertising in Street Rodder magazine for a 450 h.p. 383 for $3695 manifold to pan. ALL new parts including block!(Barrett Engines) Good luck!!!!! [This message has been edited by Camcojb (edited 06-04-2000).] |
