what bb engine to frame mounts will work in a 71 Z28? I'm not concerned with #'s matching, just want to know what mounts will make it a bolt in. The 69 BB mounts look like they have the same bolt pattern as what my cross member has.?
I also seen some pic's of 72's BB's that were the clam-shell type is this correct for 72's, was wandering if 72 was the first year they started that type? sorry for so many ?? just thinking out loud!! Thanks for any input

Z/28 and BBC mounts are one and the same on 1970-1971 Camaros with the old style mounts.

1972 went to clamshells and they are also the same.

so what I think you're saying is that Z28's small block frame mounts are the same as 70-71 BB frame mounts? am I reading that correct? Thanks for replying!

Yes,
They are the same.
1970-1971 Z/28 frame side mounts are the same PN as a BBC car for those years.

They are also very rare mounts and worth quite a bit of $$. Hard to find...
Go post on www.nastyz28.com and see what they are worth

Anyway,
AS far as a SBC-BBC transplant, a BBC has the same mounting locations as a SBC,

So even on a non-performance 1970-1971 car with a generic motor, 307, 350 whatever the BBC will mount up fine using the stock SBC replacement rubber mounts.
if you try to use the Z/28 or BBC rubber which is stronger and braced it will not work.

The key is to match the parts up.
If you have a 307 car and install a 454, when you go to get rubber mounts at the parts store, ask for 307 mounts.
If you ask for a replacement mount for a 1970 396 equipped car the motor won't sit on the fame stands.

The Z and BBC cars had a "catch" on the rubber mount so that if it broke it could only lift slightly.

So, since my 71camaro is a z28, and I have the z28 motor frame mounts, I buy motor mounts for a z28(doesnt matter wether I have a 350 or 396)? not trying to sound stupid, just want to make sure thats all I need to worry about. The reason I'm asking is that I seen a pair of BBframe mounts on ebay sell for $450 that were supposed to be for 70-72 BB Z28's. Couldnt beleive they went for that much when they looked exactly like my 350 mounts that my 71Z has, Greg

That's because they are exactly the same mounts.... if you have a Z/28.

The Z and BBC mounts are worth big $$ as you have seen.

Yes get rubber mounts for your car. Just ask for mounts for the Z at the parts store.
