i am ready to install the 396 in my 68 camaro and am in the market for some headers abd distributor. which headers will fit the best without modifications and what about these coatings for the headers? are they worth the money?? what distributor would be best for a street application??

I would say the coatings are well worth their money (especially in a big block). They reduce a lot of heat related damage. Now as far as the brand that fits the best, well, I hope you can let me know. I have a 69 with a 427 in it and have not been able to locate a good set of headers that aren't too big or take too much away from the original look (my car is supposed to be a 396, but engine problems with the original block allowed me to cheat a little). As far as a distributor, I use (and enjoy) an HEI distributor. It has worked out great for my car. But I would recommend keeping an original style distributor in case you ever decide to sell it.

I have Hedman headers on my 68 BB,with power steering, they fit perfict.Im using the Ignitor solid state ignnition,has the original look,and so far works great.Coating the headers will next.
