Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the right AC plugs would be for my 68. It has a 327 auto 210hp w/a 4-bbl carb Q-jet. This engine is pretty much a stocker except for the 4 bbl and it has been bored .30 over. Also has stock exhaust. It sees occaisional hi-way and cruising. Original owner had R43's in it. Owners manual said R44's and parts store said R45's are recommended. Also can anybody tell me what to gap 'em at. I have a stock ignition system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Dan in WV

I don't know what plug to recomend, but the gap should be .035".

Standard - R45S
Cold - R44S
Bryan is correct with the gap at .035.

Hope this helps

Thumbs up

I've always used Champions. They now recommend #58 which is also known as RJ18YC (.035). Either the Champions or ACs are probably both fine so I guess you could just go on price.

Hey, as far as 44's or 45's recommended above: if you're mostly driving low-speed around town, go with the hotter plug. It'll burn off the gas and not foul. The potential downside of a hotter plug is detonation during extended high speed operation. Unlikely you'll have a problem unless you have high compression or low octane gas.
