I have an '82Z that I bought as a stolen and recover. It has no keys for the doors and trunk. My hatch switch does not work. I can't open my trunk to take out the cylinder to get a key made. When I push the switch it makes a clicking sound. It is coming from behind the radio. I see and can pull out a little black connecter with three prongs. This is what is clicking. Is there a way to overide this for the time being and could this be the only real problem?

I used a big screwdriver to get mine open the first time, flat head that is......You're going to replace it anyway, so just bang it in there and turn to the right, it should pop right open. You can worry about the switch later, I'm assuming your biggest concern right now is just getting it open.....KZ

Used to be you could take the glove box door off and take it to a locksmith and get a key made, the key should fit the trunk too. I don't know if your glovebox is the locking type.

Cool

David, actually the car doesn't have a glove box, I don't think any of the 3rd gen's do. At least the 4 I've owned didn't. What about the door lock, what is all involved in pulling that out to get a key made as you said.

You'd have to pull the interior door pannel and remove the link and C clip. Give a call to the locksmith and maybe he can suggest what is the best way.

I've got a key made for the door which is good but it turns out that somebody had stuck something into the trunk lock. Which means that I have to get another one, I guess I will be taking a hammer to it after all.
