The interior and exterior lights on my RS flicker when the car is idling. RPMs and dwell are right. Engine is newly rebuilt with new alternator, battery and mostly new wiring (though not to the alternator). Wouldn't care so much but worried about the brake lights being difficult to see cause of the flicker. Any ideas on what would cause this? Thanks.

Mine did that sometimes, my belt was just a little loose. but it could be the voltage regulater.

Wells VR715 is a remote regulator that should cure this. The stock regulator is point actuated, the Wells is electronic. Check all your connections, wires, and grounds, then go the Wells part. The oscillating lights should stop doing that if the rest of the system is in good condition.
Auto-Zoned-Out, Farm and Fleet have the Wells lines. |

Okay, thanks guys. Unfortunately, I just replaced the regulator, so buying a new one isn't an option. A mechanic told me my existing 40-amp alternator is drawing too many amps. He suggested buying a 61-amp or higher alterator. After I check all the wiring, I may go that route.

If it only happens when it is idleing then I would say there is not much of a problem, this was common on mechanical regulators, try bumping up your idle 50 -100 Rpm and see if the flicker goes away.

I had this same problem with my Chevelle. It ended up being the accesory wire from the positive battery cable was corroded internally, could not tell from outside, it looked perfect and clean. Also, check for a good engine and battery ground.
