Question

We have a '91 Camaro Convertible VIN E that was built in May '91. The speedometer and odometer are not working, the cruise control is. The speed sensor in the tail housing tests good. Proper voltage is delivered to the speed sensor buffer. In testing voltages at speed sensor buffer connector C2 with connector disconnected, we find proper voltage at all terminals execpt C (brown wire, 1147, to instrument cluster printed circuit. The GM manual indicates this wire should have battery voltage with Cd disconnected, ignition switch "on", cruise control "on". This wire test good for continuity to the instrument panel connector. I also find that while the wiring matches the GM schematic for '91, the wire colors match the '92 schematic (colors being the only difference). I've tried an aftermarket digital speedometer with no success. Any advice or suggestions?

Signals being sent from your stock ECM could be the reason for faulty guages. My computer went really haywire in my 90, and I just ended up trashing it.
