I can't honestly speak of personal experience with "painless" kits. If you do a search, they've been discussed before...not particularly positively as I recall. I used M & H wiring fabricators (www.wiringharness.com) and was VERY satisfied with the fit and quality.

Forget Painless, go with Ron Francis Wire works, I believe their web site is Wireworks.com I used them and their kits are great..each wire is continuously labeled as to what part it goes to for its entire length, ie: "Left Headlight'. and they will custom make a kit for your car to include power windows, seats whatever you want and give you a wiring diagram as well as keep one on file in their factory for 3 years in case you lose yours.

I never had a problem with painless wiring. i have an 18 circuit body harness, as well as a dash harness for the aftermarket gauges in it. All the wires were labaled the whole length as to what they were, and it only took about 2 days to do.

The universal kits (like for street rods) are great from painless. The ones designed to fit the first gen however.... suk
I bought one and had to re wire every single plug in connector, (dash, wiper, headlite switch,... every single connector pre wired by painless) the kit came with a bunch of those cheap butt splice connectors, Luckilly, the car did not burn to the ground. The tech guys at painless are awesome, and work too hard. Spend the exra cash on a real harness, I wish I did. Again, the universal kits are great

I don't recall the exact price but I got the front light harness, engine harness (for gauges), under dash harness (for gauges), console harness (for gauges), accessory wires for both power windows and power top. As I RECALL (don't hate me if I'm wrong) it was all under $500.

All the wires were factory correct gauge & colors. Correct connections, & mounting tabs. Dash included correct fuse block. All told very complete, & easy to install.

My car didn't originally come with factory gauges so I replaced standard harnesses with gauge types which kept me from having to deal with strange little conversion harnesses and splicing old to new.

They also modified the harness for me so I could install an internal regulator alternator. They also offered to modify for my HEI but I declined because I may be putting the stock distributor back in and converting it to electronic with a Pertronics or something similar.

Anyway...I was happy. They were extremely helpful. I was satisfied with the price. Again I suggest do a search on this forum, call a couple of the suppliers mentioned and make an informed decision that YOU feel comfortable with. Good luck...it won't be that tough of a project and well worth the peace of mind knowing you're not counting on dried up, spliced up, 30+ year old wiring.

Has anyone purchased their wiring harness from NPD, Paddock or Classic Industries? What are the differences between wiring harnesses anyways?
