The wiring harness from the voltage regulater, I have from left to right, brown, blue, white, blue. The brown wire goes to the firewall. The first blue wire (from left to right) splices into a thick red wire about 3" away from the regulater, then about 6" later splices into 2 other thick red wires, one goes to the batt. one goes to the horn rely, the original goes to the alt. The white wire goes to the alt 2 prong plug. The other blue wire goes to the 2 prong plug on the alt. I am wanting to put an internal regulater alt on the car. With the way its wired here how do I tie the wires up to get the proper power to everything. Also I had a light green wire going up the wires to the alt but was cut off and not connected to anything.
Thanks, Shane |

Just went to my car and cut off the two middle wires to the regulator (white/red[in my case blue to red]). Noticed that the blue wire went directly to the alt. So in thery, I can just cut off the brown and blue wires to if I don't care about a warning light. If that is wrong I am lost at this point. Since my origanial big wire from the batt splits off to the horn rely do I have to run a new wire for the alt or just continue to use the current one.
Sorry for being stupid but I appreciate the help. Shane |

Unless You are going to run one of the "one wire" alternators, You will need the brown/idiot light wire for the alt to work...
You havn't said which alt is going to be used.....SI ? CS? .....either one will also require a heavy guage jumper from the alt plug to the alt output post..... Let us know what alternator You are planning to use.... |

Shane, it wasn't a stupid question. I know nothing about car electronics. I just remembered reading that link in the tech section some time ago. As far as removing the other two wires, I have no idea if it will affect anything. Maybe someone with more knowledge can help out, or did you already do it?

I will be using the new CS130 style alt.
Also can you explain this statment "alt plug to the alt output post" is this the same as from the alt plug to the batt? Thanks, Shane [This message has been edited by sweems (edited 03-17-2002).] |

The "post" is the stud that holds the heavy red wire with the ring style terminal that is held on with a nut...
The "plug" is the connector that "plugs" into the case... When You get Your alternator, You will have to get a connector with a few inches of wire that plugs into the alt.....either a used one from the junkyard...or...if Your lucky, a "harness repair end" from the parts store....(which will have the plug and a few inches of wire)... When You get everything together, alt mounted, belt on etc...... repost and We will walk Ya through the wiring... |
