Hello,
Does anyone have an easy way to get to the wiper switch on a 1968? I need to check the ground. Thanks Rick |

Without removing the instrument cluster there is no easy way to access the wiper switch. I had to lay on the floor board and thread my arm up behind the dash to swap mine out. A real PITA.
I suggest removing the instrument cluster... ------------------ See my '68 RS/ZZ4 |

I don’t recall that the wiper switch needs to be grounded but if it does, it would ground to dash via the switch housing and the nut on the face of the dash behind the knob. Don’cha think Vern?

the wiper switch does in fact use its own body to dash connection as the means of grounding. there is one of those star washers (at least on mine there was) on the switch where it contacts the dash, i imagine to help the continuity of the ground. when i bought my 68, the switch was not working, and when i looked into it it was just not tight to the dash and there was a bit of surface rust hampering the connection, check that out on yours. w/o a good ground the switch wont work right. good luck, hope that helps

I will try that. I am pretty sure it's a ground problem. When I turn the car on, the wipers turn on and stay on, no matter what position the switch is in. The motor has one dual spade connection and on single spade. I do not have anything hooked up to the single spade, what is that connection used for?

i can't recall what the wires did in particular (it's been awhile since i messed with it) but i think that missing single spade connection may be a culprit to your problem. on mine the dual spade has a yellow (which i believe is primary power) and a light blue wire, and the single has a black wire, all factory harness. i think the single (black) connection is a speed function, but i can't recall. i know someone on here has a wiring diagram that can tell for sure. is your harness other than factory? could be some swapped wiring too.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a little unsure what the wire diagram tells me. Where does the single line actually go?
Thanks |
