How do you 'shorten' up a click on link?

Some of the guys have blue highlighted links in their signatures like:

"My 67 Project" (In Blue or any other color for that matter).

.......Instead of actually showing the http address. Like member #6746 (Don)

use something similar to the following code, but replace the * with a [

*url=http://www.camaros.net/working/banana.gif]Party banana[/url]

that gives you this link:
Party banana
