I'm looking for a replacement for my broken AM radio. I'm thinking about a new CD receiver that I hide somewhere like the glove box or under the dash or a Custom Auto Sound radio. Conversions cost too much for what you get to me. Anybody used the custom auto sound radios? Anybody like how they hid their late model receiver? CarlC, I looked for the Kenwood KRC-3006, but they're all gone. Still considering the Krc-2008 shaft unit. Give me some good ideas. Steve Laabs

Hi steve, I use a custom auto sound unit in the 67 RS. Have no problems with it. Sounds good, has RCA jack hookups for CD changer. It looks good in dash. The ONLY complaint I might have are the selection buttons. Like going from AM to FM, or the channel preset buttons, they're a little to small for my big fingers. I have a hard time selecting especially while driving. If were cruising the ol lady has to do it. I'm to busy rowing gears.

I personally don't like custom autosound from my experiences, but i'm kinda biased
The KRC-3006 has been discontinued by Kenwood. the closest thing to that would be the KRC-1007 or the KRC-2007. both are very similar to the 3006, but no cd changer controls
I too build conversions, email me if you want a picture of a radio like yours converted with a hidden digital display

a friend of mine just installed the one where everything is hid. and even has the remote and everything works great ,except the cd player skips really bad. even on flat smooth roads.he got it at a car show and i am pretty sure it is the auto sound set-up.good luck.

Radio Joe, my sound isn't very crisp with the autosound. I thought it might be speakers but was told it's probably the head unit. I changed the speakers and there was no great improvement. I can tell a difference in clarity between FM and a cassette. The cassette actually sounds better than FM. I don't have a CD changer to it yet. It's pissing me off. I just can't seem to find the right combo the get the clear crisp sound most people have. Do you also think it's the head unit itself?
Oh yea, the amp I'm using is 12 years old. Would that affect the sound quality?

Sorry, I haven't been here in awhile.
If your radio sounds better with a cassette then with FM, it could be the antenna. how is the signal? try another antenna (mabee lay it on the floor) if no better, it could be something internally in the radio.
I mentioned I didn't like Custom Autosound let me tell why. I haven't used them in about 2 years, so mabee their better now, but I always felt that their quality was poor. They actually sent us a display once to advertise their radios, and that was broke! Just bad experiences.

If you really want one of my radios and Custom Autosound wont let you return the one you got from them, I do take them as "trade-ins" towards one of my digital conversions.
