decided to start on my interior project finally after putting in a new heater core and heater box. while in the dash I was looking over the whole setup. the problem I am now facing is that the factory sterio housing has been chopped up like a good steak. the 67 Assembly manual says it has the knob holes in the metal of the dash. since mine is cut out I was going to just finish it off and put a modern sterio in there. but I wanted the original one. BUT that piece does not come out.. is it part of the dash assembly / frame thing? I cant see how to get the sterio center area out. actually I dont think it comes out. or Does it?

Hey chris, bummer dude. Your not talking about the center dash panel are you? That is removable. The metal dash itself is also stamped with holes for radio. If they've cut that out you may be in trouble. There is also a radio faceplate that goes on the outside of metal dash part. How bad is it? If they didn't chop it to bad, maybe there's enough there to mount radio and hide rest with faceplate. If not talk to baby68ss, he just put in aftermarket stereo. (square face)

ok...u motivated me. Getting pics and the dimensions I cut out for everyone and keeping them on file. Chris, I tell ya, with the model stereo I got DEH-P3100 (Go to best buy and check out the colors, they match perfectly), This is not going to adversly drop the value of the car. And IMO, with the stereo I got, It looks and fits perfectly and looks much better. Unless you have a "real" classic "show car" with low miles, you shouldnt worry so much. Also, you can do what I did to make a perfect square and spot weld sheet metal and color match to make a perfect square and just reverse the process by making holes. Take your time dude. Really its not too hard but you dont want to cut too much of course...little bits at a time.

I'm lucky my dash wasn't all cut up. What I plan on doing is installing an original 67 AM radio for original looks and hiding a modern unit in the trunk with a remote control. Just a thought for those thinking about original appearance and modern tech.

Yea chris, that hole looks larger than the one in my wallet. Baby68rs had a good idea if you have to have originality, fabricate a piece of metal & drill holes to accept stock set-up. Radio faceplate would probably hide the new metal piece. Or just go with new style stereo. I'm lucky none of mine are butchered in that area. I went with an original appearing kenwood.(custom autosound unit). Decisions, decisions!
