68 model...does the shifter mount over the carpet, or is the carpet cut and the shifter mounted directly to the floor?

I did some research on this forum and found that the carpet is cut and the shifter is mounted directly to the floor.

Having done one myself, the shifter mechanism is attached to the hump (floor) and the carpet is cut around it. Make sure to cut it snug though, as the console goes over the top of it, and you dont want any gaps. Take your time and go slowly. Also, take care not to over-tighten the console...its plastic and cracks quite easily. (Don't ask me how I know!)
