Question

I'am completly redoing my 68 SS 396 conv now with the body work about done I'am getting ready to order new interior. The car was equiped with std when new. what do you all think, would it hurt to put in deluxe interior and add the chrome trim over the doors?

If you use deluxe door panels as replacements for std. you will have to replace the window regulators also. The window cranks won't fit otherwise.

Isnt there some deal about the rear seat in a deluxe interior being shorter than the standard seat due to arm rest? Thus the deluxe seat covers wont fit on a standard seat?

I think that has to do with fold down seats rather than deluxe. That happened to a friend of mine with his wifes car, it was deluxe with fold down rear he ordered regular deluxe. I don't remember if the seat was narrower than the upholstry of was too short or both.

I believe Mike is correct on this one. But I don't think it's limited to just the back seat. I remember reading somewhere that the front seat bottoms were also narrower due the the different door panel.

The springs should be the same but the cushions are different on the fronts. The deluxe's will cost you apx $20 more each for the cushions. The convertible has a narrower back seat because of the well covers. I don't know if the deluxe skins will fit on std cushions though. Call Ground Up or any of the other retailers, they should be able to give you the info you need. Post what you find out here so the rest of us will know as well!!!

I was going to buy new foam seats for the front when I bought new covers,I was also not going to buy new door panels because mine are like new(I hope it won't look funny) deluxe rear seats are shorter except on conv. so they will work! but, I'am starting to have second thoughts on changing from std to deluxe without changing door panels!

I replaced the standard seat covers in my 69 with the deluxe covers and have not added the deluxe door and quarter panels. I also used deluxe seat foams on my standard seat springs. I think it looks fine.

Ever sit on a vinyl seat cover in a car that has been sitting out in 110 degree Texas heat?
