I just bought a 68 coupe with white/black houndstooth seats and black interior that the previous owner dyed very poorly. The trim tag says gold interior and buckets (722), the window sticker says gold vinyl trim. My questions are; what would be gold in this interior? everything? just the dash and trim? and if I decide to keep the interior black, can I strip the dye he applied and redye it myself without causing too much damage? I thought about replacing the gold interior and paint because those are the only things I can see that has been changed. I'm just getting into this hobby so any comments you all have would be appreciated

722, thats a standard gold int. Everything is going to be gold, dash pad, seats, carpet, etc. The 68 gold is very green compared to the 67 gold which is very red.

Stripping the old black stuff might be a chore. If you want the new paint to stick, you will need to get down into the textured parts of the vinyl, and getting it all out, you would just have to see what works. I personally would rather go buy new black parts(that is if you want it to be blk.)and be done with it.

But then again, what would you be replacing as far as the upholstery went, just the dash pad? Id see if it could be saved, and replace the rest(seats, carpet, etc.)

yea, I figured stripping the dye might be a hastle. I think the guy just put deluxe interior seats and door panels in and dyed the dash, pillar pads, painted the dash, etc.The dash pad is in pretty bad shape, so I'll just replace that, but I was hoping to salvage the rest. It seems as though he didn't remove the armour-all before he dyed, because there are areas that just aren't dry completely.
