My inside door handle pops off all the time, how do you get that screw in there without drilling through the door panle? I tried one of those Goofy screwdrivers that is angled, but it dont work, its such a tight spot to get in there is it an actuall screw , or some type of pop in thing that holds the handle on , of course like usuall, the assembly manual doesnt cover that part.

Isn't there some kind of horseshoe clip that goes in there? I know they are a pain, I haven't had any problems with mine, but have on newer GM cars, and I think they were the same. By the way, saw your Planet of the Apes post the other day, but that thread got deleted fast. That guy's a real goofball! KZ

I have had to remove the door panels on my 67 and encountered the same problem. This is what I did. The plastic cup where the handle recesses can flex some. What you'll need is a thin sheet of something to go on the lip of the plastic cup and under the edge of the door handle itself--I used 3" wide strips of counter laminate about 5" long and inserted the screwdriver between them to get to the screw head. The laminate keeps the hardware and door cup from getting scratched as you turn the screwdriver. You won't get a straight shot but should be enough to get the screw tight. Starting the damn thing is the hardest part. I went to Home Depot for new screws because the old ones were a little wallowed out. It takes a little downward force to get a fairly good angle on the screw but nothing near breaking the plastic.

I had slotted head bolts and once I got them out I replaced them with allen head bolts. I still is a pain to get the allen head bolts out, but at least the wrench stays in the head rather than slipping out like with the slotted head type.
I got the slotted head out by grinding down a hex shafted standard bit from a 4-in-one screwdriver and then used a 1/4" ratchet and socket to drive the bit.
