Question

Ok I have recovered my arm rest panels 2 times and cant seem to get it to stay. My first problem what do you use for adhesive? I tried glueing the upholstery directly to the panels and that does not work plus there is no padding.What do you use for padding between the cover and the panel? The originals had some sort of cotton like material but the after market material has nothing. In addition it looks like crap and feels like crap with the upholstery directly glue to the pannels. Sorry so long.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike:

I redid the rear panels on my 67 "many-moons-ago" and used thin (1/8"?) foam (from a sewing-crafts shop) and the "tried and true" 3M 'Super 77' brand spray glue.
I sprayed the housing and one side of the foam with a light coat and allowed to "tack". The when both were just sticky (Not Wet) to the touch I carefully applied the foam to the housing and then trimmed the edges.
I then sprayed the foam and the back side of the material with the 'Super 77' and allowed to "tack" a little drier than I had let the earlier application dry. I applied the material to the housing starting at the upper seam and worked the top piece into place and then streached the lower half down, smoothing with my hand as I went. The excess was wrapped around the back (which I had also sprayed with a little 'Super 77') of the housing @ 1" and then I cut off any extra material.
I "X" cut the Ash-tray hole openings and glued them to the back of the opening also.
The covering was still stickin' good when I last looked at the car a couple years ago.

I've used this same proceedure on several panels for cars and boats, it has worked and held up very well.

Hope this helps;

John
